However, trends show that the price of homes in South Lake Tahoe have fluctuated over the years but have been increasing at a good pace since 2000, and aren’t likely to fall too much. In 2000 the median home price was just $157,800, but today the median home price is $359,550.
Buyers can take advantage of the lower prices now that are sure to climb back up again. Homes in South Lake Tahoe were built primarily in the 1960’s and 1970’s though there are numerous built before and after that time period. Many homes take inspiration from the surrounding land for their architectural style.
They feature wood exteriors that lend to the traditional cabin look that has become so prominent in the area, as well as lots of windows to take in the views and draw the eye out to the outdoor living spaces many of the homes have. At $264 a square foot homes in South Lake Tahoe cost more than other areas, but it’s hard to put a price on great location.

Though South Lake Tahoe is small in comparison to other cities throughout the U.S., but it’s definitely the giant of Lake Tahoe given the designation of largest city on the lake. The neighboring cities that span both California and Nevada are mostly 10,000 or fewer in population. Surrounding cities and communities include Echo Lake, Fallen Leaf, Camp Richardson in California and Stateline, Zephyr Cove, Round Hill, Elk Point, Kingsbury in Nevada.
